At Care Home Support and Training we have taken the decision to make some of our resources available to care home services on our website.

Below you will find resources that are free to download and others that you have to pay a small charge for.

For free to download resources and guidance you will be able to download the PDF document immediately after registering your name and email address.  We will only use the email address to send updates and newsletters.  We will respect your privacy (see privacy policy) and you can opt out or unsubscribe at anytime

For resources that require payment, we use an e-commerce platform called ‘Stripe’.  All transactions are encrypted and we do not see or hold your card details.  If you return to our site to buy more resources in the future, you will have to input your card details again.  Once payment has been processed, you will receive a receipt and will be able to download the resources that you have purchased.

At Care Home Support and Training, we are aware that some services may not be able to make a card payment and will require an invoice.  Please contact us by phone or email and we will assist you.

We are in the process of uploading resources to this page.  If there is something that you are looking for and don’t see it here, please contact us – we may be able to help.

Safer modification of food and drink

By the 1st April 2019 all health and social care services are expected to be using the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative descriptors when referring to a person’s texture modified diet and fluids instead of using ambiguous terminology such as ‘soft diet’ or ‘custard thickness’. The IDDSI framework uses a numerical scale as well as providing detailed information on testing the consistency of diet and fluids.

This guidance document provides information about what dysphagia is and what signs and symptoms to look out for; the reasons why IDDSI was introduced; and prompts that should be considered when evidencing compliance with Regulation 12 – Safe care and treatment and Regulation 14 – Meeting nutrition and hydration needs.
