Safer modification of food and drink

From tomorrow, 1st April 2019, the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative should be fully embedded into your service's practice when it comes to modification of food and drink.

Terminology includes, regular; soft and bite-sized; minced and moist; pureed; and liquidised when describing diets.  When describing drinks, the terminology that should be used is thin; slightly thick; mildly thick; moderately thick; and extremely thick.

Staff training, policies, care plans, and documentation/paperwork should all reflect the IDDSI.  Check out further details on our free to download resources page.
